The Cosmetology Nail Technician Program

Program Type: Certificate

 

The primary purpose of this course is designed for the student wanting to specialize in manicures and pedicures (nail care and application techniques). The student will be trained in basic manipulative skills, proper work habits to prevent the spread of infections and contagious disease, safety judgments, and desirable attitudes necessary to obtain licensure and for competency in entry-level positions in nail technician career field. The student will be taught the rules and regulations of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

 

Program Length

 

The Cosmetology Nail Technician Program is 600 clock hours and takes approximately four months in the full time program.  The program includes 280 hours of lecture and 320 hours of lab time in the school salon.

COS110: Nail Technician 1

Introduces nail care and application techniques, emphasizes arms and hands, bones, muscles, nerves, skin, and nails; covers orientation, preparation, equipment and implements, supplies and procedures, includes sanitation, disinfections, and safety, nail product chemistry, nail anatomy and physiology, nail and skin disorders and client consultation; incorporates rules and standards of regulating agencies.

COS120: Nail Technician 2

Continues nail care and application techniques; includes basic procedure, manicuring, pedicuring, and aroma therapy; introduces laboratory work; incorporates rules and standards of regulating agencies.

Prerequisite: COS110.

 

COS130: Nail Technician 3

Continues nail care and application techniques; includes nail tips, wraps, acrylics and gels; introduces electric files and alternative methods; emphasizes art and creativity; incorporates rules and standards of regulating agencies.

Prerequisite: COS120.

 

COS140: Nail Technician 4

Continues nail care and application techniques; includes the business of nail technology, nail products and services, emphasizes salon management, ethics and public relations; incorporates rules and standards of regulating agencies.
