The Cosmetology Operator Program

The primary purpose of this Cosmetology course is to train the student in the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to obtain licensure.  In order to obtain licensure, the student will be taught the rules and regulations of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. It also prepares the student for competency in entry-level positions in Cosmetology or a related career field by exposing them to the theory and skills of shampooing, hair and scalp treatment, haircutting, chemical hair relaxing, and hair styling, shaping and manicuring.  This program will prepare the student not only with hands on experience but also the practical side of running a hair styling studio. 

 

Program Length

The Cosmetology Operator Program is 1500 clock hours and takes approximately one year in the full time and 18 months for part time.  The program includes over 300 hours of lecture and 1200 hours of lab time in the school salon.

 

Cosmetology Operator Courses

 

COS191: Cosmetology I

Introduction and orientation to the Cosmetology Operator program and the school. Students will learn to recognize and incorporate the rules and regulations of the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, apply shampoo, hairstyling, cold waving and related theories.

360 Clock Hours

Prerequisite: none.

 

COS192: Cosmetology II

Continues Cosmetology Operator program.  Students will learn to apply hairstyling, hair cutting, manicuring, hair coloring, wig and hairpiece, hair and scalp treatment techniques and related theories.

380 Clock Hours  

Prerequisite: COS191.

 

COS193: Cosmetology III

Combines advanced techniques and applications for the Cosmetology Operator program.  Students will learn to incorporate hairstyling with scissors and razor, chemical and scalp treatment and related theories/applications.

Prerequisite: COS192.

 

COS194: Cosmetology IV

Culminates study of professional techniques and applications for the Cosmetology Operator program. Students will learn to distinguish and explain the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation rules and to apply facials, advanced haircutting, unique hairstyling, cold waving theories and related techniques.
